San Diego: Flag Publications, No date [1965]. No edition stated. Stapled b&w wrappers. Octavo. 56pp. Illustrated by Stanton throughout. "A Study in Corporeal Punishment" has been rubber stamped onto the front cover. Not sure if this was as issued. A very good copy. Scarce.
A slight biblio mystery concerning this one. The Return of Gwendoline was first published by Edward Mishkin around 1965, broken into three-chapter installments and printed on photo paper. Mishkin later published it in book form and commissioned Stanton to do a watercolor painting for the cover (an image of which appears in Eric Stanton & the History of the Bizarre Underground by Perez Seves, page 184). The book offered here has the same cover in black white, and is published, or at least distributed by, Flag Publications (Flag advertisement for a new catalogue on inside front cover). So this may be a first edition before they printed it with the color cover. Regardless, it features some of Stanton's best 1960s sexploitation art - and the best graphic work he did for Mishkin.
